Receiving services don’t need to log in. EARL delivers referrals however they choose—email, system integration, SMS, automated call or letter. But if they do use EARL, they get much more.

For the past five years, our ED has used EARL to host and manage our clinical guidelines and learning content, alongside serving as the single point of access for all referral pathways for the last three years. Its intuitive design and robust safety features have made it a trusted tool for efficiently sending and managing referrals. The platform’s automated patient communication, escalation, and reporting tools provide real-time visibility into referral progress, enabling us to address delays proactively and prevent disruptions in care. With documented evidence of hundreds of patients benefiting from timely interventions, EARL has become integral to our strategy for delivering high-quality, safe, and responsive emergency care.
EARL has been a brilliant development for our Emergency Department. Not only does it allow clinical colleagues to access guidelines, teaching and educational materials in one easy-to-use app, but it has also enabled us to improve the safety and efficiency of our clinical processes. For example, having auditable electronic referrals from ED to other specialties saves clinician time, supports an accurate clinical record, and strengthens our clinical governance by documenting such referrals in a structured, auditable way. It is a fantastic innovation, developed by ED staff for ED staff.
EARL Clinic is absolutely central to how we run the Virtual Fracture Clinic. It allows us to review referrals in real time, discharge around 25% of patients safely without a face-to-face appointment, and keep patients updated instantly by SMS and letter. Without EARL, we would face increased costs, clinic overload, longer delays, and poorer patient experience. It has transformed the service and is now essential to its safe and efficient running.
EARL is so, so easy to use. Clinician feedback is excellent, especially with regards to time saving and automating of workflows. The teams are excited for how they plan to design their individual ward needs for referrals, training, education and information.
Facilitating referrals between the hospital and CNC/SPA means that referrals are now easier, faster, safer and more robust than ever before and has contributed to us achieving a 91% occupancy rate across our virtual wards. The EARL team have supported and accommodated every query and development request along our journey to date.
